The Forest is Dark and Deep

A chill runs over your bare skin. You look to your companions, their expression matching yours; grim determination.

Every cell in your body says not to enter those woods, but your obligation forces you to step forward.

You draw your weapon with a slight tremble as a harsh wind shakes the branches, menacing you, daring you to enter.

And so, you do...

Welcome to SKALD

A Tabletop RPG like no other currently in developement!

Stories from every walk of life can come to rest here and be played out by you and your troupe!

SKALD is a TTRPG built from the ground up with a focus on narrative and player freedom, with mechanics designed to support all the thrill, excitement and terror your characters may experience on their adventures!

In addition to being a TTRPG with its own Campaign Meta Setting, SKALD is designed with the intention of giving Players and GM's the ability to easily run campaigns within all of their favorite settings from your favorite video games, television shows, cinematic blockbusters and more!

SKALD is easily configurable, contains mechanics to support Genre Crash (The act of mixing multiple genre's contents that often arent seen as going together), Open Table Gameplay, Player vs Player, Dramatic & Narrative conflicts and fully supports the Theatre of the Mind style of play.

Efficient and Expansive

SKALD aims to be hyperefficient in its design to attempt to reduce the complexity in learning to play or GM.  In this vein SKALD has streamlined it's mechanics by using a 'One Format' method with regards to design philosophy, meaning that if a person can make a character, they can design Items, Encounters, Unique Objects, Dramatic Characters (Bosses) and Campaigns.

With the 'One Format' method SKALD aims to reduce the length of Zero Sessions, 'Leveling Up' and Campaign Generation by reducing the feeling of doing research or maths homework as well as simplifying the 'At the Table' experience of players and GM alike.

SKALD possesses an incredibly robust progression system allowing for campaigns to be set at various power levels based on the GM and group's preferences or to facilitate campaigns that run for significant lengths of time..

GM's are capable of running campaigns as One Shots, Adventures, Campaigns or Living Worlds with the only limit to your experience being your imagination!

GM Optimization

Do you want to run a campaign with no set duration? Perhaps you are looking to keep your NPC's an ever present threat to the party.

SKALD is designed with this in mind.  Everything is scalable to the playergroup and easy to dial in with the Character Rating, World Rating and Mortality Rating settings, which also allow for mixed power parties!

Player Creative Freedom

Player's looking to create a truly unique character for the setting they're playing have no fear! SKALD uses a creative freedom design to allow you to make your character with the skillset's, abilities, powers and flaws you think are appropriate within the setting, so long as your GM approves.

The Mission Comes First

There are many reasons why people play games. Some play for the challenge, some play as an escape, and some play for the socialization that is often associated with it.

In Table Top RPG’s, some players create idealized versions of themselves,  and potentially through these characters are able to work out issues or concerns that are bothering them outside of the game in a safe, controlled environment.

The development team of Project Skald firmly believes that gaming can be a healthy outlet for those experiencing hard times and seeks to support the ongoing battle for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention by keeping related organizations and charities at the forefront and giving back where we can.

Mental Health Resources

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

By creating a culture that’s smart about mental health, advocating for legislative policies that make suicide prevention a priority and funding innovative research, we can save lives.
